An artisan slave was a slave that had a primary goal of producing goods, such as pottery, for their master. With their own personal maker in their properties, artisan slave owner would benefit from the sale and use of the slave's goods.

A domestic slave was a slave that saw their duties in a household such as servers, chefs, and attendants. The addition of slaves in a household reduced the need for paid servants and thus saved owners money.

Field slaves preformed more labour intensive work such as toiling in fields and digging ditches. The use of slaves for labour again, saved owners money by eliminating the need for paid labourers.
