How did the truman doctrine change lives of people living in post ww2 europe?

The Truman Doctrine states that the U.S would provide help for countries defending the democracy. This "doctrine" was made to fight communism. That changes the lives of people because a democratic government allows them to have a voice, in contrast, a communist government doesn't give rights to everyone.
