I believe each coworker got 3 boxes.

If you divide 14 by 4, you get 3.5. But, since the question is how many WHOLE boxes, they would have gotten 3 whole boxes.

we know that
Ian has
14 boxes of paper
and
divides them evenly between
4 coworkers

so
divide

14 boxes of paper by
4 coworkers

(14)/(4) =3.5 \\ =3 (1)/(2) boxes

3.5=(3+0.5)

the whole number is equal to
3

hence

the answer is

3 boxes
