Someone who is young, lacks funds, and really wants to gain technical skills while serving his or her nation should consider the military.
The military actually hold lots of benefits to its persons by providing medical treatment, housing, and a stable income. They also are taught technical skills that they can use when they return to the civilian world. Throughout a person's career in the military, they are also taught to be a better leader and life skills that will help them the rest of their life.
I personally am going to be joining the Marines in a more than a month :)
