A welder cut a piece of metal so that it fits tightly into its spot. The welder cuts 9\16 of an inch off the metal so that it measures 3 3\4 inches. What was the size of the original piece?

a) 3 3/16
b)3 7/16
c) 4 3/16
d)4 5/16

3 3/4 = 15/4

d) 4 5/16. add 9/16 and 3/4 =21/16 then you divide 21 by 16 = 1 and 5 remainder , then you put the 5 over the 16 [ 5/16 ] . then add the 3 +1 = 4 . Thats how you get the answer .
