Terbium is an atom that has three electrons which can be removed or shared during a chemical reaction. Thus, the ionic formula for terbium is Tb⁺³. Sulfate, on the other hand, is an ion that has a formula of SO₄⁻². When they are combined together, they just exchanged the charges and make it as subscript.
Tb₂(SO₄)₃
