Hydrogen is in Group 1A of the periodic table, known as the alkali metals, although it obviously isn't a metal. What is the reason for its placement in this group? A) Hydrogen has the same electron configuration as alkali metals. B) Hydrogen is a metal, but has an extremely low vaporization point. C) There isn't room for hydrogen on the right side of the table with other nonmetals. D) Scientists didn't want to reconfigure the periodic table after they covered that hydrogen wasn't a metal.

The correct option is A.
All the elements in group 1 and hydrogen has only one electron in their outermost shells, thus, they all have similar electron configuration. The elements int the periodic table are grouped in such a way that, all elements in the same group have the same number of electrons in their outermost shells. This is one of the principal reason why hydrogen is grouped with group 1 elements.
