Althea's behavior was like that because she knew that if she didn't do something, that man would die. She knew that if she hadn't helped him and left him in the exploding car, she could feel guilt because she knew she should've helped when she had the chance. Basically, in Althea's conscious, she knew she had to help the man before he died in his car.
