Answer: Dormancy

Dormancy is a characteristic of plants to survive under adverse conditions by restricting or stopping their growth and development. The dormancy occurs in different organs such as seeds and buds of plants. It is controlled and regulated by genetic and environmental factors. Dormancy is because of adaptive traits that favors the survival of the plants in unfavorable conditions. Dormancy allows plants to preserve their nutrients and energy by stopping their life processes and they can restart their life processes in favorable conditions by utilizing the stored nutrients and energy.
