Algebra is when you get the variable (which is the letter in that equation by itself) by itself. So to do that you have to divide 1.6 on both sides because right now you have 1.6y which means 1.6 multiply y and if you divide by 1.6 then the 1.6 cancels out and then the y is left by itself. the answer is y=5.625

1.6y 9
----- = ----- y=5.625
1.6 1.6

9 divided by 1.6 should get you the aswer since you want y to be by itself you have to divide it by 1.6 in order for both of them to cancel each other out and you can't just do it to one side you have to do it the other side so 9 divided by 1.6 equals 5.625
