George Washington was reluctant to lead the continental army because he never led military troops before and ,after all ,great Britain at that time had more men and in good condition to fight than the military efforts of the thirteen colonies.George Washington was commander in chief so he was doubtful to lead the continental army of what became the United States.Hope this helped !!!
