Phosphorus is commonly found in rock formations as well as in ocean sediments in the form of phosphate salts. Through the process of weathering these phosphate salts are released and are slowly dissolve in soil water. This process in turns results to plants absorbing the nutrients that come from the soil. This cycle is actually one of the slowest matter cycles in nature.
