domain is all values that your independent variable can be, in this case x

range in this context are all values your dependent variable can be. in this case y.

so if you plug each element of the domain into the function and calculate, the resulting values will be the set of numbers in the range

\bf f(x)=x^2+3x-7\quad \begin{cases} f(-3)=9-9-7\implies &-7\\ f(2)=4+6-7\implies &3\\ f(5)=25+15-7\implies &33 \end{cases}
