State two characteristics shared by elements of the same group in the periodic table

Groups are vertical columns in the Periodic Table and they contain elements with similar properties. One characteristic is that each member of a group has the same number of electrons in the outer level. This holds true for groups 1-7. Because each element has the same number of electrons in the outer shell, they tend to have similar properties(second characteristic).
