x = oranges / y = apples
x - 2 = 2y and 0.5x - 0.5y = 4
x - 2 = 2y
+2 +2
x = 2y + 2
0.5x - 0.5y = 4
2(0.5x - 0.5y = 4)
x - y = 8
Substitute
(x) - y = 8
(2y + 2) - y = 8
3y + 2 = 8
- 2 -2
3y = 6
y = 2
Substitute again
x = 2y + 2
x = 2(2) + 2
x = 4 + 2
x = 6
Hope this helps!
