What happens to the direction of water flow when the tube feet contract?

The tube feet are the canals from which the water vascular system is composed. Sea stars and sea urchins use this hydraulic system for locomotion, food and waste transportation. Contracting the tube feet it allows the water to enter the water vascular system from outside. The extension and retraction of the tube feet are by water pressure.
