It is false that a complementary relationship is one in which the two people mutually reinforce each other with compliments. Complementary relationships are those in which people complement, or complete each other. Complement and compliment are confusable words, as they are written similarly, but do not have similar meanings. A compliment is a praise, whereas a complement is like an addition, supplement, etc.
