The Emperor Ashoka made Buddhism the official religion of India. He was a famous and powerful ruler of India who lived in the 3rd century BC and decided to spread the religion of Buddhism all over his empire. Thanks to him, Buddhism flourished in this area for a long time, and it also has Hinduism to thank for its origin, the religion which most Indians today believe in.
