A taxi charges a flat rate of 1.75, plus an additional 0.65 per mile. If Erika has at most 7.60 to spend on the cab ride, how far could she travel

First, we subtract 1.75 from 7.60.  This leaves us with 5.85 for miles.  We divide 5.85 by 0.65 to get the number of miles she could travel.  This gives us 9.  So, Erika could travel 9 miles.
