Substitute x with 3y-1 to start with 3y-1+2y=9

Then you add 2y and 3y to get 5y-1=9

Add 1 with 9 to get 5y=10.

This gives you the value of y, which is 2.

With this information, we can solve for x. x+2(2)=9

First we multiply to get x+4=9

This means that x=5 and y=2
