Critics of the Selective Service System argued that it was unfair since it seemed to draft mainly working-class and the poor and it also led to racial discrimination against African Americans. Students and teaches critiqued the war for different reasons including the war's effect on economy. Other Americans protested the war as 'doves' as they did not see any progress toward victory.
