Why does Beah provide so much detail in the setting and plot before describing the war?

Beah flashback to his grandma's town toward the finish of the selection on the grounds that to adapt to frightful pictures of war. Beah give such a great amount of detail in the setting and plot before depicting the war to stress how sudden the assault was for the young men.
