What was the main reason for american involvement in the vietnam war?

The Vietnam war was America's failed attempt to prevent the spread of communism throughout Asia. The idea was that if one country became communist, the others would begin to fall like dominoes. It was also an attempt to prevent unrest in that part of the world. hope this works... :)

To create a "buffer" in order to prevent the spread of Communism in Asia (the spread of Communism was also known as the Domino effect).
