1. 2x^2=50 -> x^2=25 -> sqrt(x^2) = sqrt(25) -> x = +/- 5
2. (c+9)^2 = 64 -> square root both sides ->
(a) c+9=8 -> c= c= 8-9 -> c=-1
(b) c+9= -8 -> c= -8-9 -> c= -17
