Why would pushing a wooden block across a rough surface make the block warm?

As we know there is a certain force called the frictional force that is required in order to resist the movement of a certain object. This frictional force occurs whenever two objects are rubbed against each other. The frictional force generated is converted to heat energy in due time making the surface hot.
