Why would the Church and religious life have had such great appeal at this point in history?

I think because people are so judgemental about it and that people think that they are crazy. Well, at least that's what I think...

People's life has no intrinsic meaning. We're meat sacks floating on a rock being hurled through space. We created religion to worship a higher power which may or may NOT exist
