How was Tennessee involved in the rise of segregation?

they refused to ratify the 14th amendment, witch guaranteed citizenship to the people that where enslaved as well as Tennessee refused to give up Jim crow laws, and generally didn't follow the constitution when it came to race and equality, they made things difficult for people of color, like different buses, fountains, living spaces, ect. they didn't want to be counted equal because they thought they where superior over all other races.
