if they both equal y, then they equal each other. so you put the two equations equal to each other, -2x + 8 = x - 1
therefore 9 = 3x
x = 3
then find y by substituting x = 3 back into one of the equation
y = 3-1
y = 2
the answer is (3,2)

Your solution⬇

Solution 1▶(y) + 2(x) = 8

Solution 2▶(y) - (x) = -1

Your graphic organizer⬇

2(x) + (y) = 8 ➡(x) + (y) = -1

For solution 1; and the x-intercept ⬇

(x) -1 + 2(x) = 8
▶3(x) = 9
▶3(?) = 9
▶Does 3(3) = 9 ?
▶The answer is yes! so we have found the value of 'x-intercept' which is 3
x=3 ✅

For solution 2 ; and the y-intercept

y = x - 1
Keep in mind that the x-intercept is '3' so you can easily find the value of the 'y-intercept' if you solve it correctly!

So, rewrite the problem as: y = 3 - 1

3 - 1 = 2

y= 2✅

y-intercept▶2

x-iinterceot▶ 3

▶I hope I helped you out with this!
if thats what you meant!
