The founding of the alphabet agency's which were set up to help people by providing 'dollar a day' jobs and a place to rest. One notable example is the Tennessee valley association (TVA). They build multiple dams in the valley provided building jobs, long term jobs, electricity to the impoverished area, stopped the floodings and kept water flow at a steady rate.
