Ruby's market sells smoked meats by the pound. The prices for several different meats are shown in the table

Beef 4.25
Chicken 2.50
Sausage 3.25
Turkey 2.85
How much more does 1 1/4 pounds of beef cost then 1 1/4 pounds of turkey?

Answer: $1.75

Explanation:

The cost of a pound of beef = $4.25

Thus, the cost of
1(1)/(4) pounds of beef =
1(1)/(4)*4.25

=(5)/(4)*4.25=\$5.3125

∴ the cost of
1(1)/(4) pounds of beef= $5.3125

The cost of a pound of turkey = $2.85

Thus, the cost of
1(1)/(4) pounds of turkey =
1(1)/(4)*2.85

=(5)/(4)*2.85=\$3.5625

∴ the cost of
1(1)/(4) pounds of turkey= $ 3.5625

We can see that $ 5.3125> $ 3.5625

Difference = $ 5.3125 - $ 3.5625 = $1.75

Therefore, the cost of
1(1)/(4) pounds of beef is $1.75 more than the cost of
1(1)/(4) pounds of turkey.
