Why was Johnston NOT able to able to defend against Jackson like we hoped he could? 1. Grant attacked before he could get enough men. 2. Pemberton did not release his men to stop the attack. 3. No reinforcements were sent by lee to help the situation. 4. Grant had already landed and captured Port Gibson.
