Is ethanol hydrophilic or hydrophobic? Explain.

The other end contains an -OH group that can form hydrogen bonds to neighboring water molecules and is therefore said to be hydrophilic (literally, "water-loving"). ... One end of this alcohol molecule is nonpolar, and therefore hydrophobic. The other end is polar, and therefore hydrophilic.
