It is showing workers rising up against the armed power of the government and we all know the outcome of such a conflict as seen recently in the news when South African mine workers armed with only knives and clubs faced automatic weapons and were slaughtered but Rivera was also a believer in Socialism and Communism but after painting in Russia he was expelled from the Communist party because artists don't like to be told what to do, but will express themselves and Russian Social Realism had no interest in artistic problems only Communist Propaganda.
