Why did it take so long to abolish slavery in the South?

The southerners relied on slavery. As the North was more industrial the South required more slave labour to feed their cotton machine kind of economy. The South was not willing to give it up as easily as the North was

The North money came from industry and the South made money off of farming and land work. So the south needed labor work on their plantations fields resulting in them not wanting to give up Slavery, while the north didn't need it as much.
