Actually, when muscles get run out of oxygen, we just feel pain in that muscle area, and we can still continue to move it. What happens when there is an insufficient supply of oxygen to the muscle is that it converts glucose into an acid that makes us feel pain, which is the lactic acid, instead of utilizing energy.
