After the war, both nations wanted to establish dominance over Europe. Soviets saw Marshal Plan as an attempt by Americans to create future markets in Europe. The eastwards expansion of the communist bloc was seen by Americas as a threat to the democratic world.
They were both trying to spread their respective systems before the world war 2.
