Why were theatres often placed in the rougher parts of town?

Usually, the rougher parts of a town are considered the "lower-income" section. Most of the time, those who have a lower income than others tend to purchase things that will give them an entertaining time 'now'. Those who have higher incomes often are looking/buying things that will give them entertainment or pleasure throughout a much longer time span.
