Sumerian Utu was the patron god of the city Babylon. Also known as the sun god, he brought light and warmth to the land. This allows the plants and crops to grow there. At sunrise, Sumerian Utu was known to emerge from his underground sleeping chamber and takes a daily path across the skies. He also played a part in sacrificial divination (extispicy) rituals.
