A group of farmers bought 28 tractors and trucks. There were 1.8 times more tractors than trucks. How many tractors and how many trucks were bought by the farmers?

tractors+trucks=28

tractors/trucks=1.8, so tractors=1.8*trucks using this value for tractors in the original equation above gives you:

1.8*trucks+trucks=28

2.8*trucks=28

trucks=10, and since tractors=1.8*trucks

tractors=18
