One key factor in the falling of the soviet is it's high unemployment rate. When people started losing jobs, the economy failed. With a failed economy a country cannot function.

Answer:

One of the factor which led to the fall of the Soviet Union was the weakened military and economy of the country. After World War II, Russia tried to grow its economy under the Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev, who proposed to develop new industries. Later with involvement in the Afghanistan War, Russia economy became crippled, which eventually led the Soviet Union to collapse.
