What security did manzanar offer that the outside american society did not?

the isolated location of manzanar and the disintegration of the wakatsuki  family during the internment give the young jeanne a lot of personal space in which to develop an understanding on who she is. The ethnic prejudice of the society outside manzanar spoils japanese people's enjoyment of the american culture.
