Maladaptive daydreaming is extensive daydreaming that can last for hours at a time. It can interfere with real life and is often used as a coping mechanism. At this time it is not yet recognized in the DSM5. The DSM5 is The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, is the 2013 update to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the taxonomic and diagnostic tool published by the American Psychiatric Association.
