the new moon happens when earth casts a shadow on the moon. this happens once a month. ? do you agree with this student? explain why or why not

I do not agree with the student. The Earth casting a shadow on the moon would be an eclipse. The new moon is when the moon is aligned in-between the Earth and sun. It is true that is only happens once a month, but only because the conditions have to be just right and they only align up once a month.
