Why do you think doctors administer a saline solution instead of pure water to dehydrated patients?

It is due to the salts/electrolytes in the saline solution. The body needs these to function properly. Also if pure water to be used, it would cause hemolysis of the red blood cells.

The body needs salt and electrolytes to regulate bodily functions. The body will also absorb more water with higher salt concentrations
