A roofer calculates his bid price using the formula P = 1.85s + 4.2f, where s is the area of the roof in square feet and f is the length of the fascia in feet. Find the area of the roof with 190 feet of fascia and a price of $4,148. Round to the nearest square foot.

when u set this equation up u get 4,148=1.85s+4.2(190) then u do 4.2 times 190 and u get 798 then your equation turns to be 4,148=1.85s+798. after u get that u -798 from 4,148 and get 3,359 and u bring the rest down and get 3,359=1.85s once u get that u divide 1.85 from 3,359 and u get 1,815.68 if you round.

Answer: 1,811 square foot

Explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to solve the equation given, by substituting P = 4,148 and f=190 in the equation.

P = 1.85s + 4.2f

4,148 = 1.85s +4.2 (190)

Solving for s:

4,148 = 1.85s +798

4,148-798 =1.85s

3,350 = 1.85s

3,350/1.85 =s

s = 1,810.81 = 1,811 square foot (rounded)
