He would need to get 6 correct answer in order to get 12 stars.
Because 6*2 = 12, for every answer he gets correct he gets 2 stars so on the sixth correct answer he will get the amount of 12 stars which is how many he wants.

he gets 2 stars for every correct answer.....the minimum number of correct answers needed = 12/2 = 6
