I’m not sure if you’re asking for factual information on this or not. The true answer is impossible to know due to these events happening over 100 years ago.

Despite this, in my opinion the US could have avoided getting involved in WW1 if Woodrow Wilson was more honest to his neutrality policy he claimed to be standing behind when it came to the wars in Europe. If he traded equally with the German Empire the war might’ve been avoided since the Germans wouldn’t have any reason to target American freighters.
