May 24, 2010 - The minerals in topsoil generally aren't of much worth although in the subsoil there can be (depending on location on planet) vast deposits of valuable minerals such as Bauxite which is refined to Aluminium. The topsoil is often replaced to allow plant growth again. The nutrient rich soils are vital to life.
