These four finch species lived together on an island. Each species ate something different: large seeds, small seeds, insects, and leaves. As more people moved to the island and built houses, the available finch food changed. There were fewer seeds of any kind for the finches to eat. We would expect, over time,

We could expect the birds to change physically, to adapt to their new surroundings and the new food they are eating.
