2. Again, combine like terms first. The like terms in this problem are x and -4x. Since the 4x is negative, you have to subtract 4x from x. It will look like this: x - 4x = -3x. Now put the -7 at the end of the problem since you can't simplify -3x - 7 any further. Your answer should be:
-3x - 7
